Two Weeks, One Epic Color War!
What is Discovery Deluxe? Discovery Deluxe is our most anticipated session of the summer—a two-week extravaganza that combines the best of Keystone Science School’s Discovery Camp with the legendary CLAW (Camp Legends and Warriors) competition! Campers start with a classic week of Discovery Camp and then dive into a second week packed with thrilling events, including a Mega Camper Choice day, a car-camping overnight, and an exciting rafting adventure on the Arkansas River.

Why is Discovery Deluxe So Awesome?
If you ask any returning camper or staff member what their favorite week at Keystone Science School is, Discovery Deluxe is the answer! The energy, the competition, and the sheer excitement make it an unforgettable experience. It’s perfect for older campers, returning campers, or those ready to dive headfirst into the ultimate KSS adventure.
From the moment campers arrive, they can hardly wait for the highlight of the session: CLAW. The anticipation is half the fun! Every summer, we pretend we’ve changed the schedule—only to see the knowing grins and eager eyes of campers who have been counting down the days to CLAW all year long.
The Heart of Discovery Deluxe: CLAW (Camp Legends and Warriors)
CLAW is not just a game—it’s a tradition. For 2-3 days, the camp is transformed into a battleground of teamwork, skill, and spirit. Five teams compete in challenges, earn points, and rally their teammates with chants and cheers. Every meal, every activity, and every moment revolves around earning points for the ultimate victory.
How CLAW Begins
It all starts during what seems like a regular camp night. Maybe it’s movie night… but suddenly, the screen flickers. Static crackles. The letters C-L-A-W appear. The dining hall erupts in cheers. It’s time.
Campers are divided into five legendary teams, each with its own lore, traditions, and team color. Counselors step into roles as mascots, CAP-tains (counselor assistant program members) take on leadership roles, and the entire camp is reshaped into a competitive, high-energy battlefield.
Meet the Five Legendary CLAW Teams
Blue Mermaids
Beneath the depths of Dillon Reservoir lies an ancient civilization of shimmering blue-scaled mermaids. Guardians of hidden treasures, they are wise and elusive, always ready to protect their secrets from those who dare to steal them—especially the mischievous Red Pirates!
Green Zombies
Once ordinary campers, these creatures succumbed to the overuse of technology, turning into friendly yet eerie Green Zombies. They now wander the forests of Keystone, reminding us all of the importance of balancing screen time with outdoor adventure!
Red Pirates
Led by the infamous Captain Redbeard, the Red Pirates sail the waters of Lake Dillon in search of the most valuable treasure of all—Blue Mermaid pearls. Their swashbuckling spirit and love for adventure make them a formidable force in CLAW.
Gold Bandits
These rugged adventurers have spent generations searching for the legendary “Tom’s Baby,” a mythical gold nugget from Colorado’s Gold Rush. Their quest for riches has brought them to Keystone Science School, where they blend their treasure-hunting skills with the pursuit of victory.
Hot Pink Gorillas
The most mysterious of all, the Hot Pink Gorillas have roamed the hills of Keystone for as long as KSS has existed. A symbol of adventure and discovery, they are the wild cards of CLAW, bringing energy, excitement, and a touch of mystery to the competition.
The Thrill of the Competition
The Thrill of the Competition Over two electrifying days, campers compete in a variety of challenges:
- The Warrior Relay Race – A campus-wide relay featuring everything from wilderness skills to cookie-eating challenges!
- All-Camp Trivia – Test knowledge, quick thinking, and teamwork.
- Cabin Cleanliness for Points – Start the day strong with a spotless cabin!
- Line-Up Punctuality – Teams earn points for being on time and prepared.
- Team Banner Design – Campers unleash their creativity in crafting their team’s identity.
Even mealtimes become battles of spirit, as campers decked out in their team colors cheer, chant, and strategize over their next challenge. Points are displayed for all to see, and the race to victory intensifies with each passing hour.
