About the Pika Project
In the face of a changing climate, the Colorado Pika Project empowers community scientists to help conserve one of Colorado’s most beloved alpine species—the American pika. By training volunteers to collect data through long-term monitoring, the project generates critical information for researchers and land managers working to protect fragile alpine ecosystems. At the same time, it fosters environmental stewardship by connecting Coloradans directly to the impacts of climate change in their own backyards.
The KSS Speaker Series
This talk is the fourth installment in our ongoing KSS Speaker Series, launched in October 2024, with previous speakers including CAIC forecasters talking about avalanche awareness, a meteorologist discussing snow forecasting, and wildlife safety talks from the Forest Service. Designed to provide engaging and educational discussions about our local environment, science, and outdoor recreation, these talks are free and open to the public—so bring your friends and family!
Each session brings in experts to share their knowledge, helping us all better understand and appreciate the natural world around us.
