Expanding Accessibility with Reserved Pre-Enrollment Spaces for Families in Need
At Keystone Science School, our mission is to provide every camper with enriching, high-quality experiences that inspire curiosity and growth. Each year, we partner with Summit School District to provide pre-enrollment spaces exclusively for families who qualify for free and reduced-priced meals (F&R Lunch) based on financial need. Through this initiative, we aim to prioritize support for families with the highest need, welcoming them into our programs with resources and accessibility designed to make participation easier and more inclusive.
Prioritizing Accessibility & Removing Barriers
Families within the Summit School District who qualify for F&R Lunch have a dedicated number of spaces reserved in our programs. These spots are exclusively for families who meet this qualification, aligning with our mission to reach and support children who may face financial or logistical barriers to accessing educational enrichment.
Accessibility is about more than financial support—it’s also about breaking down other barriers families may encounter when enrolling. Some families eligible for F&R Lunch may have limited access to technology or experience challenges with online enrollment processes. To support these families, our pre-enrollment system is designed with flexibility and additional assistance, ensuring that every family has the opportunity to register in a way that works best for them.
A Collaborative Partnership with the Summit School District
Our partnership with the Summit School District extends beyond enrollment. Together, we focus on shared educational and literacy goals, using these objectives to identify and prioritize families who will benefit most from our science and outdoor programming. This collaboration strengthens our ability to support local families directly, offering bus transportation to programs and meals for participating Summit School District students, ensuring that our campers arrive ready to learn and explore.
Balancing Accessibility for All Families
To maintain fairness and uphold our values of inclusivity, we also have separate enrollment spaces reserved for families who do not qualify for F&R Lunch. This balance allows us to serve both families in need and the broader community, ensuring all children in Summit County have a pathway to participate in our programs, regardless of their family’s background or resources.
At Keystone Science School, we believe that every child deserves access to educational, joyful, and inspiring summer experiences. Our pre-enrollment initiative for F&R Lunch-eligible families represents one step in making this vision a reality, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow in a welcoming and supportive environment.
